INFORMATION & ASSISTANCE SERVICES AND
APPRISE HEALTH INSURANCE COUNSELING

APPRISE health insurance counseling is available by appointment only:
Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Current Information & Assistance Services Available Include:


Property Tax/Rent Rebate:  This program refunds some or all of your previous year's property taxes and/or rent.  To qualify you must be 65 or older, a widow or widower 50-64, or disabled.  Your previous year's income may not exceed $35,000 (for property tax rebate) or $15,000 (for rent rebate).  Only 1/2 of your social security benefit is included in the income calculation.  The deadline to file has been extended to December 31, 2010.  For more information, to receive an application or to make an appointment for assistance in filling out an application, contact Sally Hock at the center.

PACE and PACENET (Pennsylvania State prescription drug coverage programs):  These two programs are to help seniors 65 and older pay for prescription medications.  To qualify for PACE your annual income may not exceed $14,500 (Single) or $17,700 (Couple).  To qualify for PACENET your annucal income may not exceed $23,500 (Single) or $31,500 (Couple).

Farmers' Market Vouchers:  We've received additional vouchers for eligible individuals who have not yet received them for this summer season.  There are $20 worth of vouchers that are to be used at local farm markets for fresh fruit and produce.  We will continue to keep a waiting list in case we receive additional vouchers.  Call Barb at the Center for eligibility information  or to be placed on the waiting list.

Emergency 911 Cell Phones:  If you are interested in having a free cell phone for 911 emergency use only, contact Barb Reinhardt at the center for more information.  The Chester County Sheriff's department has donated these phones.

Senior Food Box Program:  You may be eligible for a free box of food each month.  To qualify, you must be 60 or older and have a monthly income of $1174 or less if you live alone or $1579 or less if you live in a 2-person household.  Call Barb at the Center for more information about this program. 

Senior Center Outreach:  Jon Ewald, Constituent Outreach Representative for Senator Andrew Dinniman, is at our center the 4th Thursday of every month to assist you with State entitlement programs.  Appointments are required.  Please note:  Jon is not able to assist with Medicare or Medicaid.


Other Services: information is available on many senior benefits programs including but not limited to:  housing options including subsidized, independent, assisted and skilled nursing living facilities; information on adult day care and in-home care services; information on reduced motor vehicle registration and other transportation options; information on other social service agencies; referral services to Chester County Department of Aging Services.  Other services are available throughout the year.
